National Junior Honor Society

Grades 7-8

Description: The National Junior Honor Society is an organization that recognizes students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character. NJHS events include running the annual food drive and school beautification. Members of the Evergreen Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society must maintain at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average, complete at least ten hours of community service per semester (five of which are served at school), and regularly attend the NJHS meetings.

How Do Students Join NJHS?

After first semester grades have been finalized 7th and 8th students who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher will receive a letter of invitation to join NJHS. Students who are interested in becoming an NJHS member will need to complete the application letter and reference form. These forms must be turned in by the date indicated on their invitation letter to be eligible for consideration. Applications will then be screened by faculty members and a letter of acceptance or rejection will be sent out within a couple of weeks. If accepted, students will be formally inducted in the spring and asked to maintain their 3.5 or higher GPA and meet other club requirements (service hours, attend mandatory club meetings, and participate with school community service projects) to continue their involvement in NJHS as 8th graders.
