The wins just keep on comin’ - Several middle school LWSD teams perform well at annual international robotics competition
Only six middle school teams from Washington state qualified for the VEX Robotics World Championship. Five of those teams were made up of students from Lake Washington School District. If that wasn’t impressive enough, three of those teams came home with some hardware for their performance at the prestigious competition. There were students from four LWSD middle schools who participated in the event. The international competition took place in Dallas, Texas, May 6-14.
The competition brought together more than 2,400 teams from over 60 nations. It was a week-long celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), diversity, and robotics.
VEX Robotics Competitions involve student teams tasked with designing and building a robot to play against other teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Students use classroom STEM concepts to learn lifelong skills in teamwork, leadership, communications and more.
